Masu cup for a traditional Japanese event called Setsubun (bean-throwing). In Japanese, 'Mame' can be interpreted as 豆 (Mame=Beans)＝魔目 (Mame=Demon eye). This ritual is believed to ward off evil spirits by symbolically hitting beans into the eyes of demons.
